“Show of Shows” returning to Philadelphia?

New Years isn’t the only day the Mummers perform as a group.  A Philadelphia tradition that moved to Atlantic City might be coming home in 2011

In recent years the “Show of Shows,” an indoor string band performance, went on the road to Atlantic City, but U.S. Rep. Bob Brady (D-Philadelphia)  wants that to change.  Brady says the elderly who can’t take the cold of Broad Street on New Year’s Day really want to hear the bands.

“My 86 year old mother that would love to go to the show, we’re going to fight and raise the money so the show of shows can come back and be in the city of Philadelphia, not the city of Altantic City,” Brady said.

George Badley is head of “Save The Mummers Fund.”  He says the bands would love to come back to Philadelphia.

“It would be actually cheaper to have the show in Philly instead of Atlantic City because our transportation costs would be less,” Badley said.

The only question is could a deal be worked out with the convention center to bring the event back to town.  Mayor Michael Nutter says he will try to help.
