Rizzo leaves Philadelphia GOP

Philadelphia City Councilman Frank Rizzo has left the Republican Party.

Councilman Frank Rizzo has changed his voter registration to independent because he says the Republican party did not treat him properly and he no longer wants to be a part of it.

“When I didn’t vote for Councilman O’Neill’s redistricting effort, he penalized me for the vote and removed me as minority whip of City Council,” said Rizzo.

Rizzo calls it an immature act, O’Neill says Rizzo knew what was coming.

“He’s going out of office he’s obviously very bitter over his loss in the primary and taking it out on anybody he can,” said O’Neill.

Rizzo says he hasn’t decided which council candidates he will endorse in the general election next month, but he’s sure of one person he won’t be backing: O’Neill.

“I could never support him,” said Rizzo.
