011416inventionInvention Convention 2016, January 16th – 18th

Robots have explored the far reaches of space, the depths of the oceans, and the inner workings of the human body. Now you can explore robots themselves. Visitors asked for the chance to understand robotics, so it’s the theme for Invention Convention 2016. The weekend event will explore the fascinating world of robotics with robotic demonstrations, hands-on engineering challenges, and in-person conversations with professionals who use robots in their daily work. Visitors will discover how the Wilmington Police Department uses bomb robots to dispose of explosive devices. They will also be able to create a series of simple Hagley “robots” using hydraulic pumps, gears, and circuits. Hagley Museum and Library, Wilmington. Throughout the event, science shows and live demonstrations will captivate audiences. Franklin Institute Motions and Machines shows will come to the convention for the first time and Cool Chemistry shows will return.

Denise King sings pop and jazz standards with touches of the blues, soul and even gospel in a voice steeped in a sophisticated swing, sometimes soulful, satin style. World-famous trumpeter, Duane Eubanks will join Ms. King for this extraordinary show. Schwartz Center for the Arts, Dover.

Blue Hen Comedy is returning to the Smyrna Opera House after their successful debut in September of this year. Get this one on your calendar because this time Brandon Jackson is bringing along Tommy Pope a rising star in the comedy world who is currently starring in the Comedy Central web series Delco Proper. Watch how the wish of a 5- year old boy fighting leukemia inspired a city, and thousands of volunteers, to come together to make his wish come true. Batkid Begins: The Wish Heard Around the World takes you back to November 15, 2013, the day San Francisco was transformed into Gotham City and Myles into an adorable mini-caped crusader. More than a billion people took to the internet to cheer him on and the story of Miles Scott became one of the biggest feel good news stories ever. Metropolitan Community Church, Rehoboth Beach.
