PHA planning a big sale

The Philadelphia Housing Authority intends to auction off properties scattered across the city.  PHA Executive Director Michael Kelly said hundreds of vacant properties including homes and lots in North, West and South Philadelphia will be up for sale.

“We’ve actually made our vacant and available property known to these various nonprofits for them to put their bids in on those to revitalize them on our behalf,” said Kelly.

He said PHA wants to get rid of properties it can no longer afford to maintain or develop and give people the opportunity to buy properties at affordable prices. “We’re looking to partner with the nonprofit, the for-profit and intergovernmental communities so it would be a public-private partnership to continue to take a leadership role in revitalizing these neighborhoods,” he said. The auction will be held in November.
