11 arrests in Cape May County underage drinking crackdown

Eleven people were arrested over Memorial Day Weekend in Cape May County during a crackdown on underage drinking.

The Division of Alcoholic Beverage Control scouted a liquor store parking lot with state police officers and nabbed underagers as they purchased or stole alcohol for their weekend shore festivities in Dennis Township. Two additional people were arrested for DUI.
It was more of the same in North Wildwood, where three 20-year-olds were arrested at popular bars, unaware the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office was working undercover.

So what do they get for their attempt at illegal weekend fun? Underage drinking comes with fines of at least $500 and a six-month driver’s license suspension. The establishments that sold the alcohol risk losing their alcoholic beverage licenses.
