Jewell Williams draws a crowd announcing his bid for Sheriff

The city of Philadelphia is getting a new Sheriff next year. A major city democrat has announced his intentions to run for the job.

The outpouring of support for State Representative Jewell Williams campaign for Sheriff lead former City Controller Jon Saidel to remark: “Half these people don’t talk to each other and they are all here for Jewell.”

State Representative Williams once was head of the criminal operations division in the Sheriff’s department.

“With my experience as a ex-Temple police officer and a chief in the sheriff’s office and a graduate of the Philadelphia Police Academy, I learned a lot about law enforcement,” said Williams.

Williams says he will also draw on his experience as a State Representative reduce the need for Sheriff’s sales of foreclosed homes.
