Health union back Nutter’s re-election

After losing others, Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter’s re-election bid has received a major union endorsement.

Health Care Workers Local 1199c is supporting Mayor Nutter. President Henry Nicholas said the union endorsed the mayor because his leadership is needed in tough times when budget cuts threaten the future of his members, including the cuts to the school district, “and I believe he is steering this city in the right direction.”

Nicholas said union members will hit the streets on Election Day.  “Mayor we promise you that we will declare May 17 social responsibility day and we will out from sunup to sundown,” he said.

None of the city worker unions has endorsed Nutter. District Council 33 and the firefighters are backing Milton Street, District Council 47 and the Fraternal Order of Police have decided not to pick a candidate in the primary.
