Latino endorsement in Philadelphia’s 7th district turns into protest

An endorsement in the City Council race in Philadelphia’s 7th district turned into a noisy protest in Kensington’s Norris Square Park today. Democratic 7th District City Council candidate Danny Savage was there to accept the endorsement of some latino leaders.  But his speech was drowned out by about twenty protesters a few feet away.”If elected I will open up an office in the barrio to better serve the community.  If elected I will not support other officials in DROP, this election I will not support officials in DROP,” said Savage. The protesters, who support incumbent Maria Quinones-Sanchez, waved signs targeting Savage and his supporters.  They chanted in Spanish that “women united will never be defeated.”

Quinones-Sanchez is the first Latina to serve on the Philadelphia City Council.
