‘Change is hard’: Why the future of a car-free MLK Drive remains in flux

Aimed to make crossing the street safer, pedestrian "refuge islands" are being built at more than a dozen intersections along Chestnut Street in West Philly.

The ADA-accessible path will connect Newport, Wilmington, and New Castle.

The $20 million project is expected to last until spring 2025. The bridge will remain closed until the project is completed.
