Free rides take $104M toll on Pennsylvania Turnpike finances

U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said fewer disruptions on the tracks will mean trains can “operate the way they’re supposed to.”

The work is part of a pilot program launched by PennDOT to address speeding on state highways.

PennDOT plans to convert the Pike from four lanes to two, with a median for turns, in an attempt to improve driver safety. Some residents fear more congestion.
