A ‘ticking time bomb’: Victim’s family sues PGW, city over fatal 2019 explosion in South Philly

The “landmark” settlement with PUC stems from a 2019 home explosion in South Philadelphia that killed two people and caused $1.4 million in property damage.

The explosion on Jackson Street in 2021 injured three people and caused several homes to be evacuated.

The new facility, Passyunk Energy Center LLC, would be a public-private partnership between city-owned PGW and Liberty Energy Trust, based in Conshohocken.
