Pilot killed after small plane crashes near Lancaster Airport

Federal authorities are investigating a deadly small plane crash in Lancaster County.

The crash happened on the 2100 block of Kissell Hill Road in Warwick Township at about 8 a.m. Sunday.

The FAA says the Piper PA-46 crashed in a field moments after taking off from the Lancaster Airport.

Police say the pilot was the only person on board and the only person killed.

Both the FAA and NTSB are investigating what happened.

This is the second incident this week near Lancaster Airport.

On July 17, Manheim Township crews responded to an aircraft in distress.

According to Manheim Township Fire Rescue, the plane carrying one person was experiencing a landing gear malfunction and remained airborne for some time before it could land.

Fortunately, no one was injured in that incident.

And Sunday’s crash happened about three miles from another plane crash back in March.

That the plane landed in the parking lot of a retirement village in Manheim Township.

Every one on board survived, and there were no injuries to anyone on the ground.

The pilot was trying to return to the airport due to an open door.
