Beginning Wednesday evening, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation said it will close a section of I-95 South near Tasker Street in South Philadelphia for bridge deck repairs.
The right two lanes of the southbound lanes were closed early Wednesday after damage to the existing bridge deck was discovered. PennDOT said a cover plate slipped out of place, causing debris to fall on South Front Street between Tasker Avenue and Dickinson Street.
No one was hurt and no property damage was reported, according to our news partner 6abc.
Maintenance crews performed a temporary repair using a cold patch to reopen all lanes to traffic just before 3 p.m.
Permanent repairs by PennDOT’s contractor will be made to the bridge deck starting at 7 p.m. Over the next three nights, crews will fabricate and install a new sliding plate expansion dam to replace the damaged section.
All lanes will reopen each morning from 5 a.m. through 7 p.m. for the morning and evening commutes.
PennDOT is still looking into how the plate fell off.
