A Philadelphia jury has reached a verdict in the third day of deliberations in the trial of Maurice Hill.

The 41-year-old was accused of shooting at Philadelphia police officers during an hours-long standoff in August of 2019.

It happened on the 3700 block of North 15th Street in the city’s Tioga-Nicetown section.

Nine officers were injured, six by gunfire. Two police officers and three civilians were trapped inside the home.

Of the most serious charges, including attempted murder, Hill was found guilty on three counts. He was found guilty of nine counts of aggravated assault and nine counts of assault of a law enforcement officer.

He was also found guilty on gun charges but was found not guilty on drug charges.

Authorities said Hill fired more than 100 rounds at narcotics officers before surrendering.

“We’re grateful the system worked but we also recognize the dangers of this job, and what these men and women put their lives on the line each and every day to protect this city,” said Commissioner Kevin Bethel.

Hill testified he was acting in self-defense and thought someone was breaking into his home.

“We were arguing what was in his head at the time, and what he knew at the time. We weren’t debating he fired. We were debating why he fired,” said defense attorney Ellis Palividas.

Nine of the officers testified, including one who stated police did announce their presence.

Hill has an extensive criminal history with arrests dating back to 2001. His family was in the courtroom daily to show their support.

Sentencing is set for July.
