SEPTA Key fails again for some riders, for the fourth time in recent weeks

The existing SEPTA Key system is rapidly becoming obsolete. The replacement system will be able to handle a new generation of cashless technology.

The transit agency had been beta-testing contactless payments since late July.

The new system will feature an “open architecture” design to allow the transit agency to “make changes more nimbly and adapt to technologies,” SEPTA officials say.
