A pair of men stole more than $700,000 from an armored Brinks vehicle in Cheltenham on Tuesday morning.
No one was injured, and the two suspects fled the scene, police said.
Cheltenham police arrived on the scene shortly after the robbery. The Brinks vehicle was making a delivery to a bank branch at an H Mart along Old York Road.
“The armored car driver was approached by two suspects, one of which was armed with an AK-style rifle and the other with a handgun,” Cheltenham Police Lt. Andy Snyder told WHYY News.
The suspects ordered the driver to hand over her firearm and proceeded to take anywhere from $700,000 to $800,000 from the vehicle. Suspects drove away in a four-door Black Acura TLX with tinted windows, Snyder said.
Cheltenham police are looking into whether there are links between this robbery and similar crimes in the region.
“It’s too early in the investigation to say for sure that they are being committed by the same suspects,” Snyder said.
Brinks declined to comment.
