You can finally check SEPTA Key balance, add fare on a smartphone

The existing SEPTA Key system is rapidly becoming obsolete. The replacement system will be able to handle a new generation of cashless technology.

A SEPTA spokesperson said it hasn't been able to calculate how much money it’s losing because of the issue, but said it could be hundreds of thousands of dollars.

The transit agency had been beta-testing contactless payments since late July.
