Extreme heat in Philly: Here’s what you need to know to stay safe and cool

Temperatures are forecast to hit 90 degrees this week in Philadelphia.

Levels of ozone, an air pollutant that can exacerbate asthma, will be unhealthy for sensitive groups on Tuesday. Then on Wednesday, the heat index, a measure that considers humidity and reflects how hot the air feels, could near 100 degrees.

The city has declared a Code Red Tuesday through Thursday, ramping up the Office of Homeless Services’ street outreach and opening up emergency shelter beds.

Saturdays just got more interesting.
