Election deadlines and dates to watch for Pa., Philly, and N.J. in 2023

Election season is underway in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

Here are the election dates and deadlines you need to know.

Pennsylvania

Election dates

• Pennsylvania general Election Day: Tuesday, Nov. 7
• Philadelphia municipal general Election Day: Tuesday, Nov. 7

Election deadlines

• Deadline to register to vote: Monday, Oct. 23
• Deadline to apply for a mail or absentee ballot: 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 31
• Deadline to return mail or absentee ballot: 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 7 (postmarks do not count)
• Deadline to submit military and overseas absentee ballots: 11:59 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 6
• Deadline for county to receive military and overseas absentee ballots: Tuesday, Nov. 14

New Jersey

Election dates

• Early voting for New Jersey general election: Friday, Oct. 28 to Sunday, Nov. 7
• New Jersey general Election Day: Tuesday, Nov. 7

Election deadlines

• Deadline to register to vote: Tuesday, Oct. 17
• Deadline to request mail ballot
  • If by mail: Tuesday, Oct. 31
  • Otherwise, in-person to county clerk by 3 p.m. Monday, Nov. 6
• Deadline to return mail ballot: Postmarked by 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 7
