Shapiro aims tax break at police officers, teachers, nurses

Last year, the state passed a budget with record education spending. Shapiro is asking for more money for education, including more than $500 million more for schools in need.

Speaker Joanna McClinton and Republican Floor Leader Jesse Topper tied 101 to 101 on Tuesday before Topper removed himself from consideration.

Barring any departures, Democrats will hold their 102-101 majority of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives over Republicans for another two years.
