NCAA President Charlie Baker calls for new tier of Division I where schools can pay athletes

Band selection is highly competitive with participants selected more than a year in advance. About 80 bands apply each year for 13 slots.

At least five college athletes took their own lives in the spring, sparking concerns that schools were not doing enough for some of their higher-profile students.

NCAA Board of Governors Chairman John DeGioia announced the move and said it was by mutual agreement.
