N.J. bill restricting use of solitary confinement heads to Murphy’s desk

Among the new laws are measures to set up a three-year pilot program in the office of the attorney general that aims to repair the harm caused by sexual assault.

The new law exempts certain “vulnerable” inmates from being kept in isolation and lessens use of the practice on prisoners for whom it is deemed necessary.

Under the proposal, inmates could not be placed in solitary confinement for more than 15 consecutive days or more than 20 days in a 60-day period.
