Gov. Murphy signs bill limiting solitary confinement in N.J. prisons and jails

Among the new laws are measures to set up a three-year pilot program in the office of the attorney general that aims to repair the harm caused by sexual assault.

New Jersey lawmakers approved a bill Thursday that would dramatically limit which inmates can be kept in solitary confinement and for how long.

Under the proposal, inmates could not be placed in solitary confinement for more than 15 consecutive days or more than 20 days in a 60-day period.
