The three incumbent candidates, who led Democrats to the party’s first Delaware County Council majority since the Civil War, won their re-election bid.

Democrat Stefan Roots defeated independent Anita J. Littleton to become the next mayor of the bankrupt city of Chester, citing a significant lead in mail-in ballot counts.

The Associated Press called the race at 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Unofficial results show Wolf with 53% of the vote and Republican Megan Martin, a former legislative official.

McCaffery, a Superior Court judge, has won a 10-year term on the state Supreme Court, one of Pennsylvania’s appellate benches.

At stake is control of the 80-member Assembly and 40-seat Senate, with Democrats currently dominating both chambers, as well as holding the governorship.

The elections on Tuesday will set the electoral stage for 2024.
