The Iran nuclear deal: Politics and public opinion in the U.S., Israel and Iran

Listen 00:48:43

Guests: Jonathan Landay, Jodi Rudoren and Ebrahim Moshen

President Obama has been busy selling the Iran deal to both the Congress and the American public. His campaign had a setback last week when Democratic Senator Chuck Schumer announced he could not support the deal and would vote against it when Congress returns from their summer recess. Schumer is the most he most senior Jewish member of the United States Congress and likely the next Democratic leader of the Senate. We’ll get the latest on the politics of the Iran deal with McClatchy reporter JONATHAN LANDAY. Then we’ll travel the globe to Jerusalem where we’ll check in with New York Times Jerusalem bureau chief JODI RUDOREN. She’ll talk with us about how Israeli political and military leaders and the Israeli public view the Iran nuclear pact. Finally we’ll hear from EBRAHIM MOHSENI, Research Associate at Center for International and Security Studies at Maryland and a Lecturer on the Faculty of World Studies at the University of Tehran, who has conducted several recent polls on Iranian attitudes towards the deal.
