The New Castle County Council is getting a new member.

Kenneth R. Woods, a business representative for the local Sheet Metal Workers Union, is being sworn in Tuesday as part of the 13-member council. The Democrat defeated Republican Douglas Suiter in a special election to replace Joe Reda, who died. The district Woods will represent includes parts of Elsmere, Stanton, Newport, Bear, and Christiana.

Woods will serve the remainder of Reda’s term, which ends in 2018. Council members serve four year terms.
