Wildwood tram car fares to rise this summer

    “Watch your wallet, please.”

There’s some advice for beachgoers on Wildwood’s Boardwalk used to riding the historic tram cars for $2.50 — and hearing the repeated announcement to “watch the tram car, please.”

The Press of Atlantic City reports the price of a tram ride will rise to $3 this summer.

Boardwalk Special Improvement District executive director Patrick Rosenello tells the newspaper the hike is needed partly to replace at least one of the engines on the eight cars.

Five of the eight were built for the 1939 World’s Fair.

Tram rides are 30 minutes along the Boardwalk in Wildwood and North Wildwood.

Last week, Wildwood officials nixed a proposal to charge beach fees. The town is one of the few in New Jersey to offer free beach access.
