Police: Western Pa. couple steals pole wires to pay for wedding

April Cater, 24, and 23-year-old Joseph Russell of North Sewickley Township allegedly cut down copper wire from 18 utility poles because they needed money to pay for their wedding, police said.

The western Pennsylvanian couple faces a preliminary hearing on Oct. 4 for allegedly cutting down wire on Aug. 9, only four days before their wedding, NBC 10 reported.

Police said that Russell told them he needed money for his wedding because he lost his job at an auto parts store. Police also said that the day after allegedly stealing the wire, the couple sold it to a salvage company.

PennPower officials have said that it will cost nearly $400 each to repair each pole.
