Vest saves Bucks cop stabbed by escapee

Authorities say a bulletproof vest protected a police officer when he was stabbed near Philadelphia by a prison escapee.Officials say the suspect was on foot Tuesday afternoon when he was stopped near the Franklin Mills Mall by a Bensalem police officer.

Bensalem Public Safety Director Fred Harran says the officer used a stun gun on the man, but he managed to steal the patrol car and take off. Officials say he was captured two miles away near a playground.

They say no children were hurt, and the man was taken into custody.

The officer has been taken to a local hospital to be examined. His condition is not immediately available.
