Dover police say hundreds of live chickens were scattered on a road after a tractor-trailer hauling the birds fell on its side.

Cpl. Mark Hoffman, a police spokesman, says the truck fell on its side about 4 a.m. Thursday on U.S. 13. Hoffman says it is believed the truck’s cargo shifted, caused it to fall. No one was injured.

Transportation officials say some lanes of the road were closed for more than five hours.
