Three questions for the candidates for U.S. Senate

WHYY gives the chance to answer 3 questions about issues in the upcoming campaign. We won’t edit their responses if they keep their answers to a minute and address the issues in the question.  We hope this will begin a conversation about the issues.

The so-called “fiscal cliff” is something a lame-duck session of Congress may have to face. Assuming some sort of deficit reduction deal is reached before the new Congress takes office, how will you work to insure that we won’t find ourselves in such dooms-day scenarios as often as we have in the last 2 years?

Federal dollars for such things as education, beach replenishment or financial incentives as was provided to Fisker automotive are important to Delaware. Given the size of the federal deficit and the controversy over earmarks, do you believe those federal dollars should continue to come to Delaware? How will you balance your duty to help Delaware with your duty to keep the federal government on a sustainable fiscal path?
