SWAT gunman kills NJ man holding toddler hostage

A man holding his 13-month-old son hostage has been shot and killed by a member of the Monmouth County SWAT team after a standoff in Middletown, Monmouth County, officials said.

The state attorney general’s office said Wednesday the mother of the child called police late Tuesday to say that Scott McAllister, 39, was intoxicated, had beaten her and was threatening to harm their child with a knife.

McAllister was locked inside the home with the boy and refused to allow police to enter. After a negotiator tried unsuccessfully through the night for about five hours to get McAllister to surrender and release the toddler, the SWAT team forced its way in at 4:30 a.m. and a team member fatally shot McAllister.

His son was not harmed.
