Stretch of Pa. Turnpike goes to 70 mph next week

About 100 miles of the Pennsylvania Turnpike in the state’s south-central region will soon get the state’s first 70 mph speed limit.

The turnpike announced Friday that the zone will run on Interstate 76 from the Blue Mountain interchange near Shippensburg to the Morgantown interchange south of Reading.

The higher speeds, authorized by last year’s transportation funding law, will begin Wednesday.

Officials say they’ll announce next week other speed limit changes that are coming for the system.
