Stollsteimer quits Democratic race for Pa. attorney general
Jack Stollsteimer is quitting the Democratic nomination race for Pennsylvania attorney general.
In announcing his decision Wednesday, the former county and federal prosecutor said it’s become increasingly clear this is not the right year for him to run. Stollsteimer threw his support behind Josh Shapiro — a Montgomery County commissioner and ex-state representative.
Stollsteimer’s departure leaves Shapiro, Northampton County District Attorney John Morganelli and Allegheny County District Attorney Stephen Zappala Jr. in a contest that may be joined by embattled Democratic incumbent Kathleen Kane.
Kane says she intends to seek a second four-year term but hasn’t made a final decision. She is facing criminal charges and her law license has been indefinitely suspended by the state Supreme Court.
State Sen. John Rafferty is the lone Republican candidate so far.
