South Jersey shelter takes in Louisiana rescue dogs

A group of dogs rescued from flood-ravaged Louisiana is waiting for new homes in New Jersey.

Eighteen of the animals were taken to the Camden County Animal Shelter in Gloucester Township. That number became 17 after a 2-year-old Cocker Spaniel was rescued by a resident on Friday.

Shelter operations manager Mike Bricker says the Animal Rescue Foundation took the 12 puppies and six adult dogs from four different shelters in Louisiana, where officials say there was “extreme overcrowding.”

Shelter staff are asking residents to consider taking in one of the dogs that have “traveled a great distance” to find a new home.
