SNL star Joe Piscopo leads Philly’s Columbus Day parade

He’s not a Philadelphia native, but he calls the area home.

Saturday Night Live alum Joe Piscopo was best known for his impressions of stars such as Frank Sinatra, but today, the TV star and comic could be seen leading one of the city’s biggest parades.

Piscopo, whose family came to the United States from Italy for a better life, served as the parade’s grand marshal.

“We can’t imagine the courage… not to know where you were gong, jammed together and then making a family and a name for yourself,” Piscopo told NewsWorks reporter Tom MacDonald.

The parade began at noon from Broad and Morris streets and was followed by a festival at Marconi Plaza in Fairmount Park.
