Romney paid $3 million in federal income tax in 2010

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s 2010 tax numbers are out, and the figures show he’s one of the wealthiest taxpayers in the nation.

He paid about $3 million in federal income taxes in 2010, but made seven times that in his investments, the Associated Press reports. His income was $21.7 million.

Romney’s tax rate is 14 percent, largely because of the $3 million in donations he made over the year. His opponents have been calling on him to release the tax report, and now Romney’s advisers say the release of more than 500 pages shows his “full compliance” with U.S. tax laws.
