Roads begin to close for Philadelphia Marathon

Philadelphia motorists are facing detours as the city prepares for Sunday’s marathon.

The inner drives of the Benjamin Franklin Parkway will close from 9:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. Friday. The westbound lanes will be open at 3:30 p.m. for afternoon rush.

The parkway’s inner lanes will close starting at 6:30 p.m. Friday until 6 p.m. Sunday.

Extra security precautions will be in place in the wake of the Paris terrorist attacks.

Runners and visitors will be screened and subject to search around the start and finish on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway.

Checkpoints into the area will open Sunday at 5 a.m. at 18th, 20th, 22nd, 25th and Kelly Drive.
