Prosecutor: Kennett Square Halloween candy scare was hoax by kids

Reports of trick-or-treaters in the Philadelphia suburb of Kennett Square finding needles stuffed in their Halloween candy turned out to be a hoax.

Police said a “needle-type item” was reported inside two wrapped candy bars given to five children on Saturday.

Chester County District Attorney Tom Hogan says the children who made the report have recanted their statements.

Hogan says more details will be released later Friday.
