Police: Woman stabs self in fight over inheritance

Authorities say an argument over an inheritance ended when a woman pushed a 72-year-old man down a flight of stairs at a southern New Jersey home and stabbed herself with a knife.

Millville police tell the South Jersey Times that 60-year-old Vicki Sheppard was charged with aggravated assault and a weapons offense after the quarrel late Wednesday.

Authorities say Sheppard told officers that the man had stabbed her. But doctors who treated her at a hospital determined that the wound was self-inflicted.

The victim was treated for injuries to his face, hand and arms.

Bail was set at $5,000 for Sheppard. It wasn’t known Friday if she had retained an attorney.
