Police: Homeless purse-returner stalked woman who owned it

A homeless man hailed as a hero for returning a lost purse containing nearly $400 has now been jailed on charges he stalked its owner — a single mother who is on welfare and battling brain cancer.

Thirty-two-year-old Brandon George was headed to an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting in State College when he found the purse about two weeks ago. He turned it over to a homeless shelter, which tracked down the woman.

But now police say George, too, has tracked down the woman and has repeatedly gone to her apartment drunk and pounded on the door day after day when she refused to let him in.

Online court records don’t list an attorney for George who faces a preliminary hearing July 8 on stalking, public drunkenness and other charges.
