Philly man videotaped stealing surveillance cameras

Police in Philadelphia say a man stealing surveillance cameras was caught in the act by the cameras themselves.

The cameras filmed the man using a folding chair and a ladder to take the cameras outside a new nail salon in South Philly.

The first thefts happened April 26, police said. The thief was taped days later stealing surveillance cameras from the same building.

Neighbors say they were surprised by his efforts to steal the high-tech equipment. One resident said stealing a camera while on camera “isn’t very smart.”

Police worry the man stole the cameras to prepare for additional crimes such as a burglary. They say someone will recognize him from the video.
