Philly councilman wants details on fire department promotions

A Philadelphia official wants the fire department to explain why it hasn’t been making promotions.

Councilman Jim Kenney says he’s requested a hearing to have top Philadelphia Fire Department officials explain themselves when it comes to promotions.

“It’s my understanding that there are three captains in one area of the city who are retiring in the same month, up in Roxborough. Why they would not fill budgeted positions like that … I’m going to find out why,” Kenney said. “It’s my understanding that there may be some animus to some on the captain’s list.”

A spokesman for Fire Commissioner Lloyd Ayers denies Kenney’s allegations.
