Philly councilman, campaign consultant spar over GoFundMe

A Republican Philadelphia councilman is sparring with a campaign consultant about who wrote language on a fundraising site now being reviewed by the city’s Board of Ethics.

The Philadelphia Inquirer says the website was deactivated Thursday.

Among other things it said people who donated $250 or more to Councilman David Oh’s campaign would get “A chance to meet Councilman David Oh and his staff as they prepare for an exciting day in the Council’s chambers.”

Alex Deering, the consultant, says he spoke with ethics officials about that wording and insists someone from Oh’s campaign came up with that language.

Oh says, “Nobody on my campaign wrote that. That is unauthorized and illegal.”

But Deering says Oh is “trying to blame us and shame us in public. That’s absolutely ridiculous.”
