Philly corner store owner kills 1 of 3 men who tried to rob him

Authorities say the owner of a South Philadelphia corner store shot and killed one of three men who tried to rob him at gunpoint.

Police said three men entered Miss Jessie’s Stop and Shop shortly after 8:30 a.m. Monday and tried to rob the store at gunpoint.

Officials said the store owner opened fire and hit one man in the head. He was pronounced dead minutes later by emergency medical personnel.

Another 22-year-old suspect was taken into custody. A third man who may be injured remains at large.

Police said two weapons were recovered.

Police said schools in the area were placed on lockdown as officers investigate and search for the third man.
