Philadelphia police officer injured in car crash

A Philadelphia police officer is hospitalized after crashing his patrol car and hitting his head on the windshield while responding to a call for a convenience store robbery.

Police say the officer’s car spun 180 degrees and hit a guardrail around 5 a.m. Wednesday, causing the air bag to deploy and heavy damage to the vehicle’s front end.

Traffic is being redirected from the crash site on a tree-lined road in Pennypack Park in the city’s Bustleton section.

The officer is listed in stable condition at Aria Torresdale Hospital.
