Philadelphia-area universities on alert over online threat

Philadelphia-area colleges and universities are increasing security amid an FBI warning about an online posting that threatens violence.

The FBI says the message indicates an attack to be carried out Monday but does not mention a specific college or university. The FBI says it notified schools of the threat “out of an abundance of caution.”

Colleges and universities in southeastern Pennsylvania, along with schools in southern New Jersey and Delaware, are asking students, faculty and staff to report anything suspicious.

The online threat comes days after a gunman opened fire at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Oregon, killing nine people and injuring nine others.
