Philadelphia Airport offering a cool drink to travelers steaming in security lines

Philadelphia International Airport may not be able to shrink the lines to security checkpoints, but a new program might just make them less aggravating.

Waiting to clear airport security can be a hassle, but Victoria Lupica says Philadelphia International Airport has set up refreshment stations to hand out free drinks to make things nicer.

“Since people have to relinquish their beverages to go through the security line, we thought we would have something for them so we instituted this rolling cart program and we have lemonade and in some instances iced tea and we serve them while they are waiting to go into the secured area,” Lupica said.

Lupica says she knows people would prefer shorter lines, but that can be tough to do when lots of airlines schedule flights at the same time.

She says the beverages will change with the seasons.  “The summer refreshment program will become the winter refreshment program except it will come with a warm beverage as opposed to a cool beverage,” said Lupica.

The airport has put together five carts and is dispatching them to various security checkpoints depending on the time of day.
