Pastry shop keeps up the Fastnacht tradition

    The night of fasting may have gone wayside, but plenty of folks still celebrate the day before Ash Wednesday by bulking up on high-fat treats.

    In Boyertown at Mary Dice’s pastry shop, the shop’s namesake and owner enjoys the yearly ritual of making “Fasnachts” the traditional Pennsylvania Dutch way, with potatoes.

    The Pottstown Mercury reports that Dice uses a recipe that has been passed down through the generations to create the little fat-laden donuts.
