Parking kiosks don’t make mention of meter-feeding grace periods

Every now and then, the Philadelphia Parking Authority eases up.

Like on Wednesdays after 5 p.m., and every Saturday after 11 a.m. now ’til New Year’s. But your kiosk isn’t going to tell you that.

As Fran Westerfer, PPA’s manager of parking meter operations, explains to CBS3, the kiosks would need a software change to prevent them from accepting money during off hours. Short of the PPA manually turning off all the kiosks, an upgrade is the only way to prevent those machines from sucking up your coins.

Such an upgrade could come in the next year — once all the kiosks are working properly — but wouldn’t apply to the single-space meters in Manayunk, Mayfair and Kensington.
